DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE:
The course offers 50 hours of practical training in teaching techniques while also helping participants to improve their own language skills. Participants explore a wide range of topics including teaching methodology, exploiting and adapting materials, the increased role of technology in the language classroom, classroom management and approaches and activities for teaching all language areas and skills,. Classes on Irish history, culture and the Irish educational system in addition to a full social and activity programme also form part of this intensive and dynamic course.

TARGET GROUPS:
- Teachers who teach English in primary or secondary school or to adults.
- Teachers who would like to meet and share ideas with colleagues from other schools and countries.
- Teachers who need practical, useful ideas for their classrooms.
- Teachers who want to improve their own English language knowledge.

AIMS OF THE COURSE:
- To give practising teachers the opportunity to explore new ideas and methodologies in teaching English
- To improve and consolidate teachers’ proficiency in the language
- To use practical ideas for the classroom
- To renew enthusiasm for teachers’ work

- Introduction to the course with its aims and objectives
- Background to language learning, motivation and the role of error
- Seminar on Irish History and Culture
2) Tuesday
- Present Tenses
- Vocabulary – checking meaning and recycling lexis
- Use of resources – exploiting and adapting course books
3) Wednesday
- Past Tenses
- Observation of experienced native teachers teaching at our junior summer school
- Feedback and analysis of the morning’s observation
4) Thursday
- Future Forms
- Reading – activities for developing reading skills and encouraging learners to read extensively
- Technology in language teaching; using blogs, wikis and the internet in language teaching
5) Friday
- Phrasal Verbs and Idiomatic language
- Listening; types of listening skills– ways helping your learners to become effective listeners
- E-Learning - blended learning

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY - Free Days

6) Monday
- Modal Verbs of obligation
- Writing; fun ways to get your students writing
- Seminar on Irish History and Culture
7) Tuesday
- Conditional Forms
- Using authentic materials and supplementary activities in the classroom
- Drama and role play for the language classroom
8) Wednesday
- Past Tenses
- Speaking–Getting the most of speaking activities
- Visit to a site of cultural interest in Cork
9) Thursday
- Gerunds and infinitives
- Pronunciation – teaching pronunciation, games and activities
- Irish culture; myths and legends
10) Friday
- Correction and feedback – when, what and how to correct
- Course evaluation and feedback

This programme includes:
- 20 Lessons per week (1 lesson = 60 mins) plus afternoon lectures and visits

- Maximum of 15 students per class
